Custom web application (drupal-based) for image manipulation

The purpose of the project is to develop a web app - in cooperation with other persons - to manipulate images of electronic parts, where each image will be associated with searchable metadata.
We plan to rely on Drupal for general functions like user management, multilanguage, and so on.
On the other hand, all the modules to upload/retrieve/manipulate the images must be custom-made because we need some special functions and the database can be quite huge.
Another developer is assigned to the database structure, you will need to coordinate with him.
We also plan to adopt MongoDB for storing related with the images, mainly to get more scalability and be cloud ready. Yet, we are ready to discuss if MySQL can fit with our needs, to avoid two databases.
Work will possibly start in December or January and must be completed in less than 3 months.
Should be find some suitable developer, we will ask to sign an NDA before proceeding with more details.
